Osteopathy

Osteopathy, Massage, Cranial Osteopathy, Therapeutic Touch.

While I have a special interest in perinatal bodywork, I offer osteopathic treatments for individuals of all ages.

You're tired of being in pain. You’re struggling with how different your body feels since having your baby, or pregnancy is taking its toll physically. Maybe you're dealing with everyday aches that won't shift, or your little one seems unsettled and nothing seems to help. You want someone who takes time to really listen, who sees you as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.

I understand that when your body isn't working or feeling as it should, everything else feels harder. My approach combines the clinical expertise of a registered osteopath with genuine care for you as an individual. You won't be rushed through appointments or given generic advice.

If you would like to discuss your individual healthcare needs or are unsure whether osteopathic treatment could be helpful to you, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Bodywork
during Pregnancy and Postpartum

Specialized care during your transformative journey.

Pregnancy Osteopathy

Pregnancy Osteopathy

Pregnancy brings about significant changes in your body, many of which can result in discomfort or pain. You want to enjoy this special time, not endure it.

Osteopathic treatment may help address pregnancy-related musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, pelvic girdle pain, and postural changes. By focusing on gentle techniques, osteopathy aims to help alleviate discomfort and support your overall well-being during pregnancy.

I use a combination of osteopathic treatment, therapeutic massage and Rebozo. These treatments are designed to support your body through the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy.

Osteopathic care during pregnancy aims to:

  • Support the body as it undergoes physiological changes

  • Help relieve common pregnancy-related discomforts, including back pain, pelvic pain, and general aches

  • Provide relief from muscle tension and improve circulation

  • Promote relaxation and reduce stress, which can be beneficial for both mother and baby

Price: £175 (90 minutes) Weekend/evening rates: £325

Please note that these therapies are considered complementary to regular antenatal care.

Postpartum Bodywork

Your precious body has gone through a lot! Conception is often a journey in itself, and during pregnancy and childbirth the body undergoes numerous changes and challenges; physically, mentally and spiritually.

The postpartum period is a crucial time for recovery and healing. Postpartum osteopathic treatment may help your body adapt to the change from heavily pregnant to not pregnant and find balance again.

In my postpartum bodywork, I aim to help your body adapt, recover, and heal from pregnancy and birth as well as adapt to the strains of caring for your newborn.

My intention is to provide deep nurturing and nourishment to you so you can continue nurturing and nourishing your precious baby. I also want to hold a deep respect for the transformative nature of the season you're in, and acknowledgement to you and your body for all it does and has gone through.

Practicalities: I provide postpartum bodywork sessions in the comfort of your own home, with or without your baby close to you. We can interrupt any time for feeds, comforting your baby, or nappy changes.

Cranial Osteopathy

For Babies and Children

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle approach to treating babies and children.

Supportive treatment or correction of strains can help your child express their full potential as they grow and develop.

This holistic, gentle and non-invasive approach is designed to support the natural healing processes of the body, promoting optimal health and well-being in the early stages of life.

Does my child need treatment?

There is no definite list of the sort of symptoms or conditions that may respond to treatment. If you would like to discuss your child’s individual health care needs with me or are unsure whether osteopathic treatment could be helpful to your child and how, please contact me.

The following signs and symptoms may indicate the need for treatment:

The First Appointment and what to expect

The first appointment will involve taking a case history, assessment and if appropriate, treatment. I will ask about the pregnancy, birth, and parents’ general health.
Although cranial osteopathy does not hurt, from approximately 6 months of age, children are less likely to want to keep still, so it is a good idea to bring in toys (not electronic screens) for distraction, or for older children, to read to them. However, it is possible to treat children sitting or playing. I’ll work around your child’s needs.

It’s not unusual for your child to feel a bit ‘out of sorts’ or even sleepy after a treatment. This is a normal reaction as the body is continuing to make adjustments and is a short term feeling, so please don’t be concerned by this.

About Osteopathy

Osteopathy focuses on the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal and other related disorders without the use of drugs or surgery.

Osteopathy in the UK is a manual therapy regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Osteopaths undergo at least four years of in-depth academic and practical training. As primary health care professionals, they will be able to identify pathology and other situations that require onward referral to ensure appropriate care. You can see an osteopath without referral from your GP.

Treatment

In order to construct a working diagnosis and treatment plan, the osteopath will take details of your medical history including past illnesses and present health. This is followed by an examination (for the purposes of which it may be necessary to remove some items of clothing). Appropriate treatment and management of your case will be discussed and proceeded to with your consent.

Osteopaths uphold holistic principles. Therefore the management and treatment plans are tailored to the individual, not just the diagnosis or condition. The mechanical integrity of the body is fundamental to good health, but is simultaneously inseparable from the person as a whole. Within this, osteopaths trust in the inherent self-healing powers of living organisms and want to give the body the opportunity to heal itself.

Treatment may include gentle controlled manipulation of the joints, specialized stretching movements of various body structures, and gentle balancing techniques, for example cranial techniques. Treatment is usually a pleasant and relaxing experience. Often self-care suggestions are provided, such as specific exercises, modifications of daily activities or other advice/recommendations to help speed up the healing process or to prevent further injury.
